Mange, der bruger anabole steroider og andre præstationsfremmende stoffer, forsøger selv at mindske risikoen via forskellige strategier. Nogle har en vis fysiologisk logik, andre giver falsk tryghed eller kan i sig selv være problematiske.

Denne oversigt er ikke en anbefaling. Den viser blot, hvad vi ofte ser, så vi kan forklare, hvor strategierne er utilstrækkelige, og hvor kroppen alligevel tager skade.
